How to Adopt

Faithful Friends is committed to finding the perfect match for you! Whether you are looking for a jogging partner, a cuddle buddy, or a playmate – our adoption process was created to find a companion that complements your lifestyle. When searching for a pet, consider what your lifestyle, activity level, and home environment is like and look for an animal that is suitable for you!

Details about our adoption requirements:

Adoption applicants must be at least 18 years old. Yes, we do adopt to out of state residents.

At Faithful Friends Animal Society we value every animal equally and consider them all to be precious and an irreplaceable part of the family forever. Our adoption fees can vary due to many factors. Pricing is dependent on age, size, breed, and medical condition. The higher adoption fees for easier to place animals gives us additional resources to provide extra help to other animals in our shelter – such as those that may require additional surgery, medical treatment, or behavior training; or those who simply have a more difficult time finding the right family and take a little longer to find their forever home.

Regular Dog Adoption Fees

  • Large Dogs: $99-$250
  • Small Dogs over 10 years old (under 35 pounds): $99
  • Small Dogs under 10 years old (under 35 pounds): $250
  • Puppies under 7 months old: $350-$450
  • Super Senior (10 years or older): $99

Regular Cat Adoption Fees

  • Adult Cats: $65
  • Kittens: $100

Adoption fee includes spay or neuter surgery, routine vaccines, microchip, de-wormer, and current heartworm prevention and flea/tick control.

Monthly adoption promotions or special sale weekends offer additional discounts, so check with us to see if we are offering any special discounts! If you are interested in bringing home a dog AND a cat, your adoption fee for the cat will be waived!

Kitten Adoption Process

Kittens come in and go into Foster Care until they are ready to be spay/neuter and then will be up for adoption.

We do not post their pictures or advertise them prior to having an exact date of when they will be ready . This is because :

1. We want to make sure they are thriving and do not pass away

2. The spay/neuter date can change due to volumes.

Once our Kitten Coordinator has confirmed that they are age and weight appropriate to be spayed/neutered, their pictures will be posted on our Facebook page. At that point, you can then begin submitting applications.

There is nothing worse than approving an application too early and then calling to advise the kitten didn’t make it! Please visit our Facebook page to see if we have any kittens available, if we do not have any recently posted (within a couple of weeks), then we do not have any available!

If you’re interested in adopting a kitten, please click here to fill out an adoption application, with the name of the kitten you are interested in.

Adopt a cat    |    Adopt a dog

Adoption applications are processed only after you come to the shelter (or offsite adoption center) to meet the pet(s) you are interested in adopting. You are encouraged to complete your adoption application online in advance, but we will not place a hold on any pet. For that reason, we encourage you to come visit as soon as possible. The shelter is open to the public Wednesday – Friday 1-7pm, and Saturday Noon-5pm.

Our adoption process is done on a first-come, best-match applicant basis in order to help our animals get out of the shelter and into homes quicker.  By getting them adopted quicker, we are able to save more animals. We make every effort to process adoption applications on the same day we received them (in person).

Faithful Friends Dog Adoption Process

If you have a canine companion, the shelter can help with dog intros to make sure they are compatible with each other. “Meet and greets” are scheduled after you meet the adoptable dog(s) you feel are a good match for your family. Please email any questions or concerns to If you do complete an adoption application online, we will keep it on file to expedite your adoption once you come to the shelter to meet the dog.

Faithful Friends reviews the application

We make every effort to process adoption applications same day when possible. If the application cannot be processed same-day it will be processed within three business days. We will conduct an interview with you to discuss your potential pet. During the interview, we will talk about the demands of being a pet owner and what unique needs your specific dog or cat will require. At that point, if your application is approved, you may either bring your pet home the same day or make an appointment to do so.

We want to be sure that each of our pets are succeeding in their new home! A follow-up phone call will come about one month after your adoption to make sure your new pet has adjusted to its new family.

Thanks to our partnerships with local Petco, Concord Pet and Pet Valu locations you can visit some of our cats needing homes at these offsite adoption centers: Petco locations in Christiana and on Kirkwood Highway, Concord Pet stores in Frazer, Hockessin, Middletown, Newark, and West Chester and Pet Valu locations in Hockessin and Newark.
