Surrendering a Pet

Surrendering Your Pet to Faithful Friends

At Faithful Friends, we understand that sometimes pet owners face the hardest decision; having to rehome their pet. We offer a wide variety of resources to try and help keep pets in their homes if at all possible. We hope pet owners will consider and truly test all of the options offered before requesting to surrender a pet to a shelter. We will not be able to accommodate same day surrenders, so please be sure to plan with ample time to ensure the best possibility that we will be able to assist you. We can not guarantee that we will be able to accept any animal.

To request to surrender a cat, please fill out this Request to Surrender a Cat

To request to surrender a dog, please fill out this form: Request to Surrender a Dog

To request to surrender a small animal (rabbit, guinea pig, etc), please email Nicole@faithfulfriends.us

Due to the high number of requests received daily for surrendering animals, those who are filling out the request form are going to get a quicker response.

  • We are unable to house owned animals at our facility for any length of time.We focus our efforts on helping homeless pets who may otherwise not find live exits from municipal shelters, and local pets who are in need of rehoming. Please look for local boarding facilities if you are in need of temporary placement for your pet(s).

  • We are unable to go to a property to investigate cases of animals in improper conditions. If you have any concerns regarding this manner, please click HERE for more information on reporting a violation with Delaware’s Office of Animal Welfare.

  • Stray Pets – If you have found a stray dog or cat, please click HERE for the contact information for animal control. Animal Control will pick the animal up directly from you. We are not contracted to hold stray animals, and are unable to pick up any stray pets.

Lost & Found Animals/Animal Control

Faithful Friends Animal Society does not have any animal control contracts, so we do not have legal authority to do any kind of animal control or investigation of animal abuse. We also do not have the staffing or resources for this type of activity. Please click here for information about what to do if you are a Delaware resident who wants to report or get assistance with:

  • Found pets
  • Stray dogs/dogs at large or dangerous/vicious dogs
  • Animal abuse, neglect, fighting, abandonment
  • Concerns about animal housing/general care
  • A person or animal who has been bitten or scratched by an animal, including vicious dogs

Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work to assist you with your request.

Donation to Provide Care Faithful Friends provides every pet we intake with basic medical care. We also provide excellent daily care and enrichment at the shelter while the animals wait for adoption. Fees from adoptions only cover a portion of these expenses. We ask that all pet owners who are surrendering a pet, help to cover the cost of that animals required care, which include: FeLV/FIV (Feline Leukemia/Feline AIDS) Test for cats/kittens; Heartworm Test for dogs/puppies, FVR-CP (Feline Distemper) Vaccination, DHP-PV (Canine Distemper) Vaccination, Rabies Vaccination, Bordetella (Kennel Cough) Vaccination, and Spay/Neuter surgery. If you cannot make a monetary gift to help cover these costs, please talk to our staff about other ways you can help.
