Dog Kennel Supervisor

Full time, 40 hours per week
Faithful Friends Animal Society

Days/Hours: Flexible availability morning and evening shifts, weekends and holidays

Duties:

· Oversees all day-to-day dog care and staffing issues

· Coordinates and conducts interviews, hiring, training and re-training when necessary, with support from dog trainer, of all dog caretakers and shift supervisors

· Maintains Dog Care Handbook, updates as needed, distributes and reviews with all new hires, and ensures they are all following procedures and protocol, and standards of care are met

· Maintains phone list, distributes, and makes adjustments as needed

· Keeps staff apprised of all updates and any pertinent information via group texts or other means

· Creates, reviews, revises, and disseminates forms and instructional lists

· Updates staff availability, prepares, distributes, and posts weekly schedule in line with budgeted hours

· Handles staff call-outs and vacations, finds replacements, covers shifts if no other coverage, and comes to the shelter in an emergency, including if dogs are dumped off hours and there is no other staff member available, or an overnighter is required due to weather emergencies

· Maintains notebook documenting personnel issues, daily staff issues and problems, and discusses with Dog Department Manager weekly, or as needed if sooner

· Handles basic disciplinary actions, prepares write-ups, makes termination decisions with Dog Department Manager, and HR Director if necessary, and meets with staff

· Meets with Leads as needed, and monthly with full staff

· Oversees the overall cleanliness of the Dog Department, ensures thorough cleaning and disinfecting of kennels, condos, and outside areas, updates cleaning procedures as needed, communicates any changes, and ensures that cleaning protocol is followed

· Reviews every walk sheet and kennel/cage card before each shift maintaining overall familiarity with each animal

· Performs rounds walking the department frequently, and does daily walk through with Leads to ensure staff have completed all tasks

· Observes animals closely, and identifies and addresses medical or behavioral concerns

· Works closely with the behavioral team checking specific dogs having issues in the kennels

· Ensures daily task list is kept current, and tasks are being completed and signed off on along with the daily task sheet

· Ensures staff keeps up with laundry and dishes, we are well stocked for next shift, and kitchen and laundry areas are neat and well maintained

· Ensures the cleanliness and organization of the food storage area

· Maintains an inventory of supplies, making sure staff has everything they need, and order what is needed

· Places weekly food order and prescription treats

· Monitors food supply for all foster programs

· Prepares and distributes meals and medications for special needs dogs

· Playgroup runner

· Coordinates with maintenance team for repairs throughout the department

· Ensures Dog Caretakers’ hours are input and correct in payroll system, enters payroll notes, and completes by month-end deadline

· Performs other duties as required or assigned by the Dog Department Manager

Skills Required:

· Prior supervisory experience

· Computer skills

· Strong organizational skills

· Dog Handling up to 80 lbs.

· Be able to carry up to 50 lbs.

· Good interpersonal skills

· Able to lead and work with a team

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 – $40,000.00 per year
