Cat Adoption Counselor
Duties
- Assist Adoption Coordinator with the Adoption Coordinator’s tasks, including, butnot limited to, processing adoption applications, interviewing potential adopters, creating bios, scanning and uploading documents to Shelterluv, and preparing adoption folders.
- Counsel potential adopters in selecting a pet that fits their lifestyle and the cat’s temperament, and show animals to prospective adopters during shelter hours. Give information about specific animals and explain the adoption process.
- Promote special needs cats for adoption.
- Prepare adoption plan for each special needs cat which will identify the cat’s unique needs, housing requirements adopters must meet to successfully provide a forever home, special feeding requirements, and any on-going medical care which must be provided.
- Work closely with the Marketing Team to prepare social media promotional posts.
- Work closely with Adoption Coordinator to increase adoptions and save more lives.
- Keep the bios up to date in the barn cat book.
- Update cat locations daily.
- Pick up sick cats from off-site locations when Coordinator cannot.
- Attend Cat Department Weekly Meeting.
- Prior to opening each day, make sure condos and adoption rooms are neat and tidy, maintain throughout the day.
- Provide support to adopters when their adopted cat is having difficulty acclimating.
- This responsibility is rotated with Adoption Coordinator weekly.
- Help handle info emails.
- Backup to the Adoption Coordinator when the Adoption Coordinator is away from the Shelter.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Skills Required
- Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork with the managers and staff in all departments.
- Listen to customers and provide effective responses and remedies to their questions and needs.
- Responsible for knowing which animals are available for adoption and knowing the temperament and personality of each throughout the shelter with priority on special needs cats.
- Prepare bios for cages in a timely and efficient manner.
- Communicate to the public principles that convey and impart an understanding of the policies and procedures of Faithful Friends, educate when necessary.
- Review cat applications for completeness, follow up if not complete.
- Change animal status if adopted in Shelterluv and write on the adoption board.
- Make sure all paperwork is input for month-end reporting.
- Miscellaneous office tasks and help with events.
- Maturity, good judgment and a professional appearance.
- Flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of Faithful Friends Animal Society and an interest in and appreciation for the no-kill movement.
- Treat all animals humanely, with compassion and concern – both on and off the job – and communicate these values to others.
- Familiar with Fear Free handling of cats and dogs.
- Ability to sit and work with computer for long periods of time.
- Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required.
- Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands, to move animals and goods.
- Able to give shots, give medicine, and handle cat intake protocol a plus.
- Able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must have a current driver’s license.
