Carl: NCC Community Cat Grant
Carl arrived at a cat colony with an injury. The colony caretaker managed to trap him, and Faithful Friends facilitated his TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) through a New Castle County Community Cat Grant. The caretaker took Carl home, where she cared for him as his injury healed. During this time, she discovered that Carl was friendly and adoptable. She then surrendered Carl to Faithful Friends for adoption. On May 18th, Carl found his forever home!
With the help of community grants such as these, Faithful Friends is able to humanely and effectively help manage populations of stray and feral cats.
In a Trap-Neuter-Return program, community cats are humanely trapped (with box traps), brought to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear-tipped (the universal sign that a community cat has been neutered and vaccinated), and then returned to their outdoor home (or in cases like Carl’s, available for adoption.) TNR stops the breeding cycle of cats, prevents reproduction and disease, and alleviates the community of nuisance behaviors (yowling, spraying, fighting) associated with unfixed cats. Cats and kittens from our TNR program are evaluated for adoption by our animal care teams.
