Celebrating the First Thank-a-thon: A Marathon of Gratitude
In November, Faithful Friends Animal Society hosted its first-ever “Thank-a-thon” targeted to a segment of 400 donors who have provided support to the organization this past year – a marathon of gratitude for these donors who have supported us in creating brighter futures for countless animals. The event was a celebration of the bond between people and pets and an opportunity to reflect on why supporting animal welfare nonprofits like Faithful Friends is so vital.
A Beacon of Hope for Animals
Faithful Friends is more than an animal shelter; it’s a movement. Established to spearhead Delaware’s no-kill initiative, Faithful Friends became the first organization in the state dedicated to a no-kill philosophy. This movement challenged traditional shelter practices by committing to save and care for every animal, no matter their age, breed, or medical needs. Today, we proudly stand as a beacon of hope for animals who might otherwise face euthanasia due to overcrowding or lack of resources.
The no-kill movement is more than just saving animals; it’s about giving each animal a chance to live, thrive, and, hopefully, find a loving home. For more than two decades, Faithful Friends has provided essential care, rehabilitation, and second chances to dogs, cats, and other animals in need. But keeping this promise is a monumental task, and the recent surge in stray and abandoned animals has made our work even more urgent and challenging.
Celebrating Community and Compassion
The Thank-a-thon event was our way of saying “Thank You” to some of the donors who make our work possible. Throughout the day, we called and wrote messages to donors sharing heartwarming stories of animals saved, celebrating milestones reached, and spotlighting the donors and volunteers who have been part of our journey. Special thanks to Shannon, Jane, Joyce, Debbie, Kayla, Ali, Pam, Emily, Corey, Linda, Jenn, Richard, and Diane — you made the Thank-a-thon possible!
By the Numbers: Thank-a-Thon 2024
This year’s Thank-a-Thon was a true team effort, and the numbers speak for themselves!
- Staff Contributions: 9 staff members went above and beyond their regular duties to volunteer during the event, contributing a combined 14.5 hours of their time to make this Thank-a-Thon a success.
- Volunteer Support: We were thrilled to have 5 volunteers sign up to participate, collectively donating 12 hours over two days. Their dedication ensured every donor received a personal call of gratitude.
- Donors Reached: Together, staff and volunteers reached out to over 400 donors, sharing heartfelt thanks and stories about how their generosity directly impacts the animals in our care.
Volunteer Spotlight: Corey Staats
At this year’s Thank-a-Thon, one volunteer went above and beyond. Over the two-day event, Corey Staats selflessly stayed through every shift, reaching out to donors to express our heartfelt thanks. Corey regularly gives his time and financial support to Faithful Friends. Whether it’s walking dogs, helping with events, or bringing in cartfuls of dog treats when supplies are low, Corey embodies the spirit of our mission. We are grateful for his commitment to the animals and for the warmth and kindness he shares with our donors and staff. Thank you, Corey, for being a shining example of what makes our community so special!
Staff Spotlight: Alison Romano
At Faithful Friends Animal Society, we are continually inspired by the incredible dedication of our volunteers and staff. Despite an already jam-packed schedule, Alison Romano generously signed up for multiple Thank-a-thon shifts and helped to ensure the event ran smoothly from start to finish. Her energy and positivity were contagious. Whether it was assisting with check-ins, keeping spirits high, or jumping in wherever help was needed, Alison’s contributions made a noticeable impact. We are fortunate to have such extraordinary team members in our Faithful Friends family. Thank you, Alison, for your time, compassion, and unwavering dedication to our mission!
