Faithful Friends Animal Society Offers Free Pet Food & Supply Bank - Opening Doors to Help Pets Stay Home
New Castle, DE — (November 1, 2025) —
Faithful Friends Animal Society (FFAS) offers an on-site “Free Pet Food Bank,” a vital resource designed to support pet owners and community-cat caregivers who face financial or transportation challenges. FFAS’s objective is simple yet critical: reduce pet relinquishment due to cost, and keep beloved animals where they belong: in loving homes.
“Our Pet Food Bank is often the difference between a family keeping their pet or having to surrender them due to financial hardship,” said Jane Pierantozzi, Executive Director of Faithful Friends Animal Society. “We rely 100% on community donations to keep this program running.”
The Pet Food & Supply Bank is housed at their shelter in New Castle, DE. Additionally, they offer a monthly delivery program, on the first Saturday of every month, for those in New Castle County who are unable to travel to the shelter. Registration is required monthly, and spots are limited.
With the end of pandemic-era SNAP benefit expansions, many individuals and families are finding their grocery budgets stretched thinner than ever, leaving little room to cover pet food costs. Without community support, many may be forced to make the heartbreaking choice between feeding themselves or their pets.
“We’re seeing more families than ever come to us for help,” said Pierantozzi. “When budgets shrink, our food bank becomes a critical resource.”
This program is made possible entirely through generous donations (monetary and in-kind) from individuals and local businesses. The stock of food and supplies varies day-to-day, and FFAS sincerely welcomes any donation of any amount.
Without continued support, many pet owners facing financial hardship or transportation issues could feel forced to relinquish their dogs or cats because they can’t supply food, something FFAS views as preventable.
How you can help
- Donate food or supplies: Whatever you can spare; canned or dry dog/cat food, kitten/puppy supplies, gently used beds or crates, etc., make a difference.
- Monetary gifts: Cash donations help FFAS purchase items where the demand is greatest and keep the program responsive.
- Become a sponsor or business partner: If your business would like to support our Free Pet Food Bank with ongoing donations or special drives, don’t hesitate to get in touch with Alison Romano, Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator at FFAS, at volunteer@faithfulfriends.us
The Free Pet Food Bank directly supports Faithful Friends’ mission to champion animal welfare, lead policy change, and support animals and their caregivers with compassion and care. By helping pets stay fed and healthy, the program reduces shelter intake, strengthens human-animal bonds, and ensures that economic hardship doesn’t lead to unnecessary separation.
When you support this program, you help create a ripple effect, stronger human-animal bonds, fewer relinquishments, and healthier communities, and that is exactly the kind of outcome FFAS strives for.
