Rehoming: Cash

We are trying to rehome our dog Cash. We want him to go to a good home. We don’t think he would do well with a family who has small children because he is very protective of kids. He loves other dogs and we don’t know how he would act with cats since he hasn’t been around them. He goes to Farmers Pup Playhouse and gets along with dogs of all sizes and hasn’t had any issues with dogs.
He will be four years old in February and is about 175 pounds. He is a Great Dane/Bowrboel mix. His rabies vaccine is good until May 2026. He was neutered just before he turned two years old. He loves to play outside, rough house with my husband and snuggle on the couch. He is a great dog. He has attended training at Offleash canine so he is good with commands and recalls. He uses a stim collar, not a shock collar and is very well trained with it. It’s about a $400 collar which we will give to whoever takes him.
I do want to make you aware that about two weeks ago. My mother-in-law was babysitting our five month old daughter at our house by herself for the first time. It was early in the morning and she brought him in from being outside. She was holding our daughter on her hip and went to reach to take his collar off. When she grabbed the collar, we think he either got spooked or was protecting our daughter and bit my mother-in-law‘s arm. He grabbed the arm and immediately let go. He immediately knew he did something wrong and appeared to act very sorry. Due to three teeth breaking skin, we contacted animal control and informed them. They advised that he is fine and was not being deemed as dangerous or aggressive because it was a protection instinct most likely. They advised we could keep him but we not longer feel comfortable just because of his size and our daughter being so small. We are struggling to find somewhere that will accept him due to this incident but we are fully transparent with everyone. We believe this was due to a lot of change at one time after bringing our daughter home, going back to work full time and having someone babysitting in our house alone with him for the first time. He is an amazing dog who is always loving and cuddly.
