Rehoming: Prada
This sweet 12 year old girls name is Prada. My husband inherited Prada when she was four after his mother passed away eight years ago. Prada has since moved around with him to a few different homes. Homes with other cats, dogs and children. Currently we live in a small ranch house with our now one year old son that she tolerates pretty much anything from.
Prada suffered a disability a few years back, affecting her balance and some cognitive activity. She had an ear infection that went to her brain and caused some permanent damage. She no longer jumps on countertops or anything unless she really focuses on it. She has a slight cock in her head due to the cerebellum imbalance but her personality is still perfect. She’s still as happy as can be. All she wants to do is cuddle and sleep all day.
This brings us to why we’re searching for a new home for her. Before our son was born, Prada had some issues using the litter box due to her lack of balance. She is a creature of habit so as soon as we started laying down pee pads she just used the pee pads and that was that. This has worked for us up until the last few months when our son started walking. We had to block off the area with the pee pads with a baby gate so our son wouldn’t get them. Prada seemed unsure about going through the cat gate and started going in a new spot exposed to the baby. We’ve tried to redirect her but she’s used to that new spot now and if we block her again I’m sure she’ll just find a new spot as cats do.
Obviously this has left us in a really stressful/unsanitary situation with our toddler. We can’t leave pee pads out in the open for our son to get to, and he already stepped in cat urine when it first occurred. We’ve never considered giving her up before because we’ve always figured it out and we’ve always been fearful someone else would just put her down.
Prada really needs somewhere without young children, and that can be consistent with assisting her disability. It deeply saddens us that we can’t seem to find another solution. This is our final attempt to try and find someone with a warm heart that isn’t afraid to handle a situation a little different. All she needs is love and some structure.
